Deep Project 1

Currently, the UAAAC is actively working to improve physical accessibility at the Laguna Sports Arena. After conducting a site assessment and consulting with community members, the committee identified that the main entrance lacked a wheelchair-accessible ramp, creating significant barriers for persons with disabilities. To address this, the UAAAC retained Atty. Jennifer Pinnock, an expert in disability rights law, to draft a formal letter to the Governor of Laguna. The letter outlined the legal requirements for accessibility under national disability laws, described the impact of the inaccessible entrance on PWDs, and proposed practical recommendations for installing a compliant ramp. The committee is now awaiting a response from the Governor's office and is prepared to offer further technical assistance during the planning and construction phases if needed.

Deep Project 2

The UAAAC identified that the Carmona branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, despite serving a large congregation that includes elderly and disabled members, did not have an elevator to provide access to the upper floors. In response, the committee drafted a detailed letter addressed to the church's headquarters in Utah, outlining the accessibility challenges and referencing both local and international standards for accessible religious facilities. The letter emphasized the importance of inclusive worship spaces and requested a timeline for remediation. As a result of this advocacy, the church leadership approved the installation of an elevator, and construction is currently underway. The UAAAC continues to monitor progress and maintain communication with church representatives to ensure timely completion and compliance with accessibility standards.

Deep Project 3

The UAAAC retained Atty. Jennifer Pinnock to draft a letter to the management of H2O Hotel regarding the absence of an accessible bathroom for persons with disabilities at the Manila Ocean Park facility. The letter cited relevant laws and building codes, detailed the specific barriers encountered by PWD visitors, and requested an urgent plan for compliance. Following delivery of the letter, the UAAAC conducted a comprehensive site inspection alongside hotel staff, documenting areas needing improvement. As a direct result of this intervention, the hotel management committed to installing a fully accessible bathroom that meets universal design standards. Construction is now in progress, and the committee will conduct a follow-up inspection to verify adherence to accessibility guidelines.

Deep Project 4

Currently, the UAAAC is providing legal and administrative assistance to two individuals who are blind and seeking to obtain the necessary licenses to practice massage therapy. These individuals faced bureaucratic hurdles and unclear regulatory requirements that hindered their ability to secure proper accreditation. The committee is supporting them by liaising with local government agencies, helping to prepare required documentation, and advocating for fair and expedited processing. The UAAAC aims to set a precedent that will benefit other blind and visually impaired massage therapists in the region.

Deep Project 5

Currently, the UAAAC has established a formal contract with a group of persons with disabilities (PWDs) based in Biñan to produce customized notebooks. This initiative provides sustainable livelihood opportunities for PWD artisans and promotes inclusive business practices. The committee oversees quality assurance and facilitates market linkages to ensure the success of the project. The UAAAC also plans to expand the program by exploring additional products and reaching out to more PWD groups in neighboring communities.
